February
Bulletin and zine for Moolakii Club Audio Interface : DIY label and hub for peripheral underground experimental electronica
Welcome to February! Been another busy month at the Moolakii Club Audio Interface. Lets get stuck into things that were, things that are and things that yet still may be.
First up, we released the split album Another Kind Of Earth by Socool and The Lonely Bell. A cinematic odyssey of tape textured gorgeousness that sweeps and glides through repetitive melodies and evolving structures. One for the ambient drone lover and those who like to immerse and go deep into their electronica.
It has that Frosti label vibe and we’re super stoked to put it out into the world - Cassettes / CDs / Downloads all over here…
We also bring forth into the world our second quarterly edition of the Audio Interface periodical MCPM015 with exclusive interviews with Chris Watson (Cabaret Voltaire / award winning sound specialist), Andrew PM Hunt (Dialect / Ex Easter Island Head), Neil Stringfellow (Audio Obscura / field recording legend), Dave Clarkson (Field recording meister) plus reviews, commentaries and compilation album on the cover. It is a field recording special which delves into the history of the genre, how to get into it and an exploration of artists involved. Grab your copy over here…
We also had our first live soundtrack to silent films evening over at Future Yard Birkenhead with La French, Rjania and Jez Thelwell (stepping in for James Adrian Brown who fell to the dreaded norovirus) performing live and semi-improvised soundtracks to some fine avant-garde early cinema. A huge evening which sold out the yellow room and was moved to the “big” room to accommodate the demand for tickets on the door, Early technical experiments and surrealism in film, it was such a fab night that we are planning more of the same.
And stepping into the future, we are planning another big live event at the wonderful Bloom Building Birkenhead - a weekend of live peripheral underground experimental electronica 14th and 15th June. Tickets going on sale in March £20 weekender / £17 Saturday / £5 Sunday. Everything else TBC so look out for updates at events.moolakiiclub.com and the facebook event page fb.me/e/2iqsBi4If
Next month we will also be bringing the Italian purveyor of Buchla goodness back to the club with Ogle’s next album Moon Ritual. More minimal, crisp and evolving arpeggios and eclectic melodic dreaminess themed around the wilds and countryside folklore. Pre-order will be up early March so keep checking your inboxes for updates.
We also delved into vinyl - and have a store opening up over at https://elasticstage.com/moolakiiclubai where we will slowly be putting back catalogue editions and new albums up as press on demand with some albums having full vinyl releases. Exciting times ahead for record collectors who want these absolute gems of electronica in their box. Currently we have Darkling Sessions Project by Loopatronica available but with more to follow.
And finally our Feb playlist is growing - tune in over here, we will be adding to this before the month is out and then March gets underway and the buds of new life will be ushering in more amazingness from all our wonderful artists and friends.
